Carter’s Abstract Paintings

Carter made these acrylic paintings recently, and I framed them with some pallet wood I had saved from the pallets the flooring came on. They look really cool to me - the closer you look at them, the more interesting they are. The black and white ones remind me of caves, for some reason.

Sleepy Gary

Carter and I were making stuff out of polymer clay a few weeks ago, and I made Sleepy Gary, from Rick and Morty. He's now on the shelf with my other Rick and Morty collectible stuff. For the base, I even tried to match the nasty color of the living room carpet from the episode Sleepy Gary was in.

Sean’s Drawing

Sean has been watching a bunch of YouTube videos about drawing lately, and he drew this. I think it came out great! It's currently on display on our fridge.

Carter’s Artwork

Carter has been using a lot of my plywood scraps from the workshop as canvases for painting. We've been hanging the better ones up in the attic. She's slowing filling the wall along the stairwell.

Determined Carrot

Sean drew this for me a while ago - he calls it "Determined Carrot". I don't know what it is about it, but for some reason it makes me laugh. I've got it stuck on the wall near my electronics workbench, to remind me to keep pushing forward even when I feel like I've hit a wall on some project.

Christmas Projects

At school this year Sean made a wreath out of pine cones, and Carter did an afterschool guided painting session and painted this snowman. Good job, guys!

Carter’s Painting

Carter painted this a few nights ago. There was a "painting party" at the school where they brought in a professional artist that walked the kids through painting step by step. She had a really good time, and I think they are going to do another session next month. Even though we asked her if we could hang this in the living room, she insisted on hanging it in her newly decorated bedroom.

Sean’s Painting

Sean brought this painting of a birch tree home from school a couple of weeks ago. Something about it really appealed to me - he really captured the likeness of the bark of a white birch. I think I'm going to find it a home somewhere in the house. Maybe I could make a frame for it - I've even got some birch lumber I harvested from a birch tree that I cut down when clearing a spot for the cabin. How appropriate!

Sculpting with Clay

I got some polymer clay and tools to try and do some sculpting with the kids. We went with Super Scupley - it's soft when you work it, but you can bake it out in the oven to set it hard as a rock. We all sat down one night last week to give it a shot. They really seemed to enjoy it - we'll probably make some more stuff tonight. Last time I made the little one-wheeled robot on the left, and Carter made the Pikachu on the right. Sean made a Pikachu as well, but he hasn't painted it yet and he wanted me to wait before I took a picture of it.

Paper Portrait for a Friend

Here's another paper portrait that I made recently. This one is a friend's son, and was sent to him as a surprise. His son is pretty photogenic - and you've gotta love that hat!
