My Backpack

This year this backpack turns twenty. I've been putting patches on this since the beginning, but have only recently realized that I've never mentioned it here on the blog. So I'm planning to do a series of post where I walk through the patches that I've added to it over the years. I realize that this is an extreme case of self-indulgence - but hey, isn't that what blogs are anyway?

Winter Hike – Mt. Major

Keith and I took a winter hike at Mt. Major yesterday, out near Lake Winnipesaukee. The trail was packed in well - we didn't even need snowshoes. The summit was clear and there was almost no wind. All in all, a great day!

Camp Knife – Part 1

I've started working on a camp knife in the drop point hunter pattern. I'm starting with O1 (oil-hardening) tool steel, and using the stock removal method (rather than forging). So far, I've got the rough shape cut out and filed down to my layout lines, and I've built the jig I will use to file the bevels.
